Flora & Fauna
The area is rich in animal, bird and plant life and is a delight for naturalists.

Fauna
Local bird-watchers have recorded well over 100 species of birds that live in or visit the area:
- raptors such as White-Bellied Sea Eagles, Whistling Kites, Brown Falcons, Wedge-Tailed Eagles, Black-Shouldered Kites, Nankeen Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons are fairly common.
- night birds such as Tawny Frogmouth, Owlet Nightjar and Boobook, Barking and Powerful Owls can be found in the bush often in daylight.
- water birds such as swans, ducks (Black, Wood, Chestnut Teal, Mountain, etc), egrets, ibis, spoonbills, swamp hens, grebes, cormorants, darters, dotterels etc are common and visit en-masse when the water level in the lake is low or when the farming flats are well-watered.
- small birds such as Pardalotes, Robins (Scarlet, Flame, Rose, Yellow), Jacky Winters, Fantails, Willie Wagtails, Eastern Spinebills, Fantailed Cuckoos, etc are seen in forest and grasslands.
- honeyeaters such as White-Naped, White-Eared, Yellow-Tufted, Crescent, etc abound when the box trees are flowering.

Marsupials are represented by:
- Eastern Grey kangaroos grazing open areas
- swamp Wallabies on the bushier slopes
- Wombats digging, digging, digging!
- Possums - Brushy Tailed, Ringtailed, Sugar Gliders and the occaissonal Phascogales
Eastern Water Dragons are commonly seen around the water and goannas can sometimes be spotted in the local bush.
